HD-DVD & Blu Ray

As I reported when HD-DVD & Blu-Ray were only recently announced, all those moons ago, this will be a battle that will go on, without necessarily the winner being the best format. In my opinion, on paper, the Blu-Ray format appears to be better than it’s rival HD-DVD - and it appears that the people that matter, the film industry, are leaning towards this format too.

On the 4th of January, in a shock announcement (at least for the HD-DVD team), Warner Brothers decided to exclusively switch to Sony’s Blu-Ray. It appears that in a cost-cutting move to only supply the single format, Warner Brothers think that the way the industry is heading (historically too) is in Sony’s favour. Well now the hornet’s nest has really been stirred with rumours that one of the other big movie studios, Paramount, are also about to switch. Paramount over the last few years have been responsible for press releases saying first they’re with blu-ray, then they’re against. Maybe now Warner Brothers have gone Paramount have finally made up their minds. [SHOW ME]
