It’s starting to get difficult to keep up with all the news flying around about Yahoo! Firstly you have Yahoo getting into bed with Google, trialling their AdSense in the US for a couple of weeks. Does this mean a Google offer is on the cards? Then there’s news of a deal imminent between Yahoo and AOL almost ready to be penned. AOL and Google both share some commonalities, with Google owning a share of AOL & also providing the search capabilities for their website. Then there’s the news that Rupert Murdock’s News Corp could potentially be about to form an alliance with Microsoft to give more weight (and presumably money) to the deal. And to top it all off (for now!) there’s Microsoft’s retaliation to the news, stating early on in the rumours that it would be an anti-trust issue if Google and Yahoo were to join forces - which must surely add weight to the gossip.
It’s interesting to see some of the biggest companies in Technology scrambling over themselves to get a piece of Yahoo. And it’s also interesting that everything is starting to gather pace after the 3 week ultimatum Microsoft gave to Yahoo. It looks like rather than making Yahoo bow down to pressure, it’s brought all of the potential buyers out of the woodwork as they realise they need something on the table quick to stand any chance of having a piece of the action.
